I had most of my flintlocks out today, just to look them over…cleaning patch down the bores…etc. I have hunting stories for each and every one of them.
When I use to attend the CLA shows....I wouldn't even touch those nicely built guns on display.
As for me....I finally picked up a nice one a few years ago for 1/2 price....and I shoot it often.
I don't own any safe queens.
In fact, if you saw some of the guns I shoot, you might be wondering how they still work.
I do not believe I would wish to own a firearm I would not shoot. The Daisy BB gun gets used on bird feeder squirrels. The various rifles, ML and suppository, get used on unpredictable whims. The doubles are a whole 'nother topic. Suffice it to say we tend to use a lot more powder and shot than is needed.
With a mild interest in Japanese swords, they are valued like we do fire arms. The condition, age, maker and finish are only a few of the criteria used to rate them. Actual wear from legitimate use or battle damage do not decrease their value. It is the same for a nice fire arm to me.
Wit the exception of my first rifle a CVA mountain rifle every rifle I have owned was made from scratch. I am not a collector so they have all been used extensively. When I no longer shoot one then it is time to find it a new home.
