I finally finished up my .54 woodsrunner today, no carving, just a plain rifle. I’ve never named a rifle before, and it’s probably not worthy of the name, but in light of tonight’s bad news, I’ve got to name it Lightfoot. Funny as I worked on it earlier today I listened to The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald on repeat for about a half hour right around 6 pm. (7 pm in Toronto) then the rest of summertime dream… had no idea at the time.

I’ll post some decent pictures tomorrow.

I've been listening to a few of his songs tonight. It's amazing how many great musicians we've lost in the past year. I'll grab an acoustic guitar and play one or two of his songs before calling it a day. I like tributes - and I really like yours. Here's to your new rifle: "Lightfoot!"

Beautiful rifle, sad news. Few song writers make you listen to every word like Gordy did. My wife and I saw him about ten years ago, and he put on a great show. My wife isnt a big music person, but she was captivated the entire show. I read that he loved touring the back country Canadian rivers by canoe on extended canoe trips, which leads me to believe I would have enjoyed his company around a campfire.

Well it has no carving, but I'd not say it was a "plain" rifle by any means. "Unembellished" or "undecorated" perhaps....

Of course, we are awaiting target photos from the range as you test fire it.

Excellent choice of names. Being named after one of the premier balladeers of the past century is about the best name for a flintlock.

Yes, his songs were and are very evocative and romantic. Good guy! Nice obit in the NY Times today. (5/3/23)
