I am trying to come up with a load/choke for my Pedersoli 12 guage, SXS shotgun. With Full, and modified chokes, (screw in) I can't load cardboard wads, and cushion wads, unless the tubes are not in place. I can only use wonder wads, and these don't seem to hold shot charge together very well. I am trying to locate a source for improved cylinder, and cylinder choke tubes, so I can use the cardboard wads and cushion wads. I am fairly new with percussion shotguns, and would appreciate suggestions on this.

Landngroove, I would take your shotgun, or better yet the choketube to a gunsmith and find out the thread size for them. You then should be able to find out what brand of tubes are compatible. I'm gonna guess since it's an Itrallion gun, that Beretta/Benelli might fit, but who knows in this day and age. Don't just try screwing in tubes, as most tubes will start, but can very easily strip, because of the fine thread. Once you know the size the game is won, and you hav a lot of aftermarket choices. Hope this helps. Bill

there is no problem loading 12 guage choked gun without removeing chokes.. put in powder, 12 ga nitro card, two tc felt wads with yellow lube, shot and over shot card..pack the owder and wads, not the shot.. just slide the over shot card down firmly, do not pack.. if double barrel you can use two over shot cards.. bend the nitro card, that is break its back and load it past the choke. dont cram it in sideways and make it smaller. you can go to two thinner nitro cards and fold them in a criss cross pattern after rammed home to get a good seal if you need to.. or criss cross two regular nitro cards if needed.. pattern with 30 inch paper at 40 yards to see what is going on.. the over shot cards can be put in so the punch edges is up givving it more bite.. re ram second barrel if you fire one barrel and reload.. if it gets too loose it will be dangerous. remove cap if your going to reload one barrel with other one loaded.. 80 grains 2fg and 1 1/8 ounce shot should be a good starting point. modified choke can be loaded in muzzeloader to get very good patterns. always check your load with ramrod measured on fingers to be sure you ve loaded each barrel right.. if something looks wrong pull the load.. doubles are a little tricky to load untill you get used to them.. good luck dave.

Any good gunsmith should be able to make you a set of choke tubes if you can't find any for sale that fit...

Extreme answer: Cut the barrels back past the choke tubes and have two cylinder bores, but this is irreversible...

Although I'd prefer imp cyl and mod chokes, it is not too hard to load a full choke. Insert the hard card OP wads edgewise past the choke. Load two of them, one horizontal one vertical.
The cushion wad is hard to get past a full choke. One can use 13 ga. wads as recomended by circle-fly, or just skip the cushion wad, It is only there for lubrication and does nothing for the pattern.
Choke boring is by far the best way to tighten a shot pattern, ML or modern and is well worth a little bother in loading.

Landngroove,
You can find choke tubes at Cabela's. I have the Pedersoli 10-gauge SxS and I bought the Cylinder chokes for shooting skeet. I needed to get lots of practice before waterfowl season.

I found them in the Dundee MI store, also saw them in older Cabela's catalogs.

Sincerely
AJ/OH

Some months ago someone posted here that they cut the cards from the edge to about half way across. This allows the card to squeeze past the choke, but will expand past that. Search around you might find the post. The poster might have been CaptChee, I can't remember for sure though.

Landngroove, Coyote Joes post is right on,I have a pedersoli 12 and use 2 .125 card wads over powder, place them at about a 45 degree angle in the bore one at a time, get one in down the barrel about an inch or more use the rod to put in down on the powder, the first wad all dry,the second you can use a little bore butter on the edge to lube it,these guns are great,if you go to two cylinder chokes you can control your pattern with varying the powder or shot.

Regards
Harrys
