Well I finally tracked down a source for Wano fffg black powder - and this is NOT easy to do in this country, and I am keen to get out this weekend with my new (to me)T/C 50 Cal.

Can anyone recommend a good starting load )in drams - as my powder measure only throws in drams)

Many thanks

Robbo

Well, one dram = 27.xx grains.

One rule of thumb for a good plinking, general purpose, short to midrange round ball charge is "the caliber"...ie: 50grns.

In your case, try 2 drams for 54grns and that'll be close enough...if you want a more stout load for long distance and/or hunting, use 3 to 3.5 drams

I have only used FFg in my Hawken so far and it likes 65 grains (volume). If the grains to dram is the same between FFFg and FFg my load computes at 2.4 dram of FFg. Backing my load down for FFFg would equal 2 drams. I tried 70 and 75 grains but never saw better accuracy. I didn't try a higher charge than 75 FFg.

Don't know if I helped you any but I tried.

I dont know a light starting load, but my TC hawken 50cal with 100grs of Triple Seven and a TC 370gr Maxi will cut three leaf clovers at 100yds every time off a sand bag rest with iron sites. Hell, I cant even get some of my scoped cartridge rifles to do that.

What Roundball says...50gr for moderate shooting, 65gr and up to maybe 75gr for longer distance with a patched ball. FFFG works for me better than the FFG.
Good lube, good luck, have fun!

If memory serves correctly, Wano might be a little faster burning than Goex 3F, so if it is you'll have to make a slight adjustment.

That being said, everybody at one of the clubs that my Son & I shoot at use 70 grains of 3F! We started a trend when we kept winning the matches in all kinds of weather / wind conditions. The 370 grain Maxi is quite good...a couple of weeks ago I twinned a pair in almost the same hole from 100 yards, shooting off-hand!

Good luck with yours!

Dave

Thanks guys - much appreciated. I'm in for a good time this weekend...
