i am restocking my cva pistol and cant use my lock bolts over because they are countersunk into washers. on my new stock i am installing an inlay for each bolt so they will be flush and so my old bolts will be to short. the problem is when i try an 8-32 bolt it doesnt thread in so im thinking that cva used differant threads. does anybody know what kind of threads cva used on thier lock bolts?

For ease of maintenance, you could go with 10-32, if the web between the barrel and ramrod is thick enough. Sears, Home Depot, and Lowe's all sell the proper size drill and tap for about $5. Measure the web and bring the lock with you to be certain it will work before shelling out a dime.

thats the problem i drilled the lock bolt and the wood is so thin between the the ramrod hole and the bolt hole that if you shine a strong light in the bolt hole you can see it shine through the ramrod hole although it didnt break through. i found my thread guage and the bolt looks like a 8-36 i dont have a tap or die and really wouldnt want to buy one for just one job. if i were to go to 10-32 could i notch the bolt or are there other options?

Notching the too-large lock bolt is a common and well established method...

i drilled out for the lock bolt and broke through the ramrod hole then i tapered a ram rod and inserted it. it did touch the bolt but very slightly so i have to order a new bolt and when i get that i will take a dab of inletting black put it on the end of the ramrod see where it touches and put a slight notch in the bolt.thanks for the advice guys
