I have a Queens Ann lock by Loose and Rusty(L@R)
It's a piece "O" crap like most L@R locks, no offence intended to anyone who shoots them.
The frizzin is soft non sparking, the timing is flawed, frizzin spring is weak.
Has anyone tried Cabin Creek RX lock tuning.
What is your thoughts.
:hatsoff:

No i have not personaly but have a friend who did an he was very pleased. After my hunting season is over i am going to send 1 to them and give em a try. sorry you are having bad luck an hope everything works out for u.

LC Rice, one of the original owners of L&R, will do a bang up job of rebuilding it, but I don't have any contact info.

God bless

Why not send it back to L&R seeing your particular lock has many defects?....Fred

I have sent ALL seven of my L&R locks to LC Rice over the past several yrs. and they now work great! You won't be disappointed. Though, last year during our regular gun season, my L&R on my Beck decided it could fire anytime it wanted to. I looked and other people looked at it and could not find the problem. I sent it to L&R and they were very fast in fixing it and returning it. The sear spring had a crack in it, so that the spring pressure wasn't high enough to secure the sear into the tumbler. It appears as if the service at L&R may have changed as it was first rate and fast.

I have an old L & R that is almost 30 years old now. That lock is the best, most reliable lock I own or have seen. It has routinely fired over 100 rounds without misfire for me, even doing so on one flint many times. Everyone who has the old locks that I know of raves about them just I do mine. Apparently the new ones aren't near the quality. Too bad, L & R was such a fine lockmaker.

My first L&R is on a gun built in 2001. So I can't say that the lock is a 2001 or even a little earlier. I have heard many good things about the "old" L&R's, but since then........ I think tooling is wore out as I do know that bridles have been drilled crooked, etc. It appeared to me, that the people I dealt with last year had much more a sense of getting it right, then I had before that time. Previously, the locks would always lose spark about after 8 shoots. Well, I don't know about you, but I may test a new flint several times for spark before I go hunting. With that in mind, I may only have a few shots left! I have Chambers/Silers, that will go for a whole range day and I would never touch the flint. I know I have one lock here, that I know had over 300 shots out of it and it had only been touched up may twice. I am not counting the shots out of it anymore. It is just too good to beleive. Now, all these locks that are great, don't throw a huge amount of sparks, just a few, but they ALWAYS land in the pan and the gun goes off. Maybe that is there secret to long flint life, I don't know, but I love them! Regardless, I sure though do hope that L&R has actually become a better manufacture. Who else makes all the different styles of right and left locks, that my SxS's reguire. Besides, good competition is good for everyone. If I had to lay my life on the line with the first L&R lock that came in my Beck, I would have been dead in the first battle or starved to death. Thank heavens a cure was made! JMHO

I can see how something like this can be confusing; I've run into similar controversies in the past, i.e., the old ones were great, new ones bad or old bad but new good, etc. About all you can do is go with the preponderance of pros vs cons.

For instance, I've found imported flint locks to be a crap shoot; you might get a good one but it also might be garbage. Even the best make a lemon once in a while. I usually base my decision on service after purchase. If it's a garbage lock yet they go all the way to make sure it works properly, I'll still buy from them. My tyro's suggestion would be to send it back to L&R, describe the problem and let them handle it. If they don't seem concerned, you know to avoid them from then on.

Thanks Dave,
I had a very nice talk with Mr L.C. Rice and it was like being shown the light.
My two silers from Chambers went into the mail today to be tuned and I am waiting on a new frizzen and main spring for my L@R Queen Anns lock.
Talked to Tim today as well from L@R and he was going to not only pick me out new springs he was going to lock test them.
We will see if I can pick up some lock time after I replace the springs, if not, off to L.C. who started the company anyway.
adios fer now and thanks again.
Nathan

Wow, I'm surprised to hear of your problem with them. I have an L&R Queen Anne lock on my early Lancaster rifle that tg built, and it has performed flawlessly. Smooth, fast, reliable. I had to replace the frizzen spring on it a year ago or so because I had it apart and lost it. Called them up to get a new one and they said if I'd send it in to them they'd put a new one on for the price of the part plus shipping, and go over the lock for me while it was in. Since they are in NC and I'm in VA, I took them up on the offer. It was back within the week with new frizzen spring in place and the comment, "nice lock". I was impressed and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Ditto, I sent my queen anne in about a year ago and had it back with a new main spring within a week. I was pleased.

I forgote to memtion that it was a left hand lock.
I was told by Mr Rice that it's a common problem with "new" left hand lock.

I have a gun that Brad at Cabincreek made it has a chambers siler and he did one heck of a job tuning it. Also my dad took his lock from his TC renegade, he tuned it up and made him a real frizzen. Now his TC lock is almost as fast as my siler
