OK, I have some questions about lock tuning. I had to replace the sear in my lock, and it did not want to work at first. I have smoothed stuff internally with a stone, but there still seems to be some friction that I need to deal with. Also, there is a screw for the adjustment of the sear on the tumbler. Any suggestions on that adjustment or other things to look for?

Sometimes the sear screw bears down on the sear to much if you back the sear screw off a touch it should solve the problem......George F.

Thanks, I will try that! But what about that adjustment screw for the sear engagement?

Do you mean the adjustment screw on the front trigger of set triggers? I don't know of an adjustment screw inside the lock mechcanism.........George F.

Is that a Traditions or C.V.A. lock if so you can ajust the sear ingagement with it .

IF, the angles of the sear nose and the tumbler notch are correct and safe, you need no more sear contact than the thickness of the sear nose. This you will have to determine for yourself. If you have to back your sear screw out a bit for it to move freely, you can bend the bridle, just a tad, so that the screw will be under a little torque and not become too loose. Bend only in the area of the screw if possible.

Well, I took it apart, and it was an issue of a screw being too tight, but not the sear screw. It was the sear spring screw that was too snug. I backed it off and life is good.

The sear engagement screw I dinked around with a bit, but I don't want to make it too touchy of an engagement. It seems to work fine now. Thanks all!

Oh, the lock was for a CVA Mountain Rifle. I replaced the sear and that is where the issues began...
