hey guy's is there any tricks or secrets on inletting a lollipop tang? I did one about three years ago and seem to remember that it was a pain!!!! I am getting ready to do another and thought i would ask the experts thanks mike m.

It is a pain. I inlet the barrel and leave a bit of extra wood at the breech end sort of like a pre-carve would be. I then inlet the tang separate (not attached to the barrel). After I have the tang fully inlet I attach it to the barrel and fit the breech. Odd I know, but that was the only way I could come up with how not to get the gap on the front of the lolipop. See when you usually inlet a tang it is going down and also back, but by doing this seperate you can inlet it straight down. It takes a good bit of measuring, good luck. Remember this is a secret. :winking:

Sounds like a good ole plan to me, it is now in the note book and on the hard drive.

Someone else should have a better plan of attack, thought I get this back up to the top. Anyone??

I have only built one, thats why I thought someone may have a better idea. You may still beable to use my method, but it would be tricky trying to get the breech to come out where it needs to with the barrel.

I guess that you can heat it and hammer to stretch it , thicken or thin it as needed.

You need to taper/bevel the edges Your problem will be where the screw goes in. As you inlet the tang, it will move down the wrist causing a gap in the front. So you need to create an angle on the thickness. Like beveling the edges on inlays. I hope that helps some.
