I was perusing through this technological miracle called the internet and did a little search on .31 caliber cap and ball revolvers. It seems that the only barrel length is 4".

Does anyone make one with a longer barrel? Thanks

The Dixie 1855 Colt Roots sidehammer pistol made by Palmetto/Italy can be bought with a 5 1/2 inch barrel.
It's expensive and from what I've read by some who own them it is just like the original, ie it is Not reliable and is prone to breakage.

IMO, the .31 cal pistols were intended for short range, last chance defense. They were "Pocket Pistols" , good for concealing in pockets or inside a boot. This explains why most of them have a 4 inch (or shorter) barrel length.

zonie :)

Originals often had longer barrels and I wish the same options were available as replica. Colt gave a 5.5-6" barrel engraved pocket model to the Prince of Wales. this one is lettered to the Robert E. Lee family:

It should be easier to hit with one of the long barreled ones than with the available 4"

There have been a few limited offerings in the past, and I missed out on one with a 6" barrel this year on gunbroker. It was made in 1981 if I remember right.

Have owned various 6" .31 revolver replicas over many years. Do not see them for sale very often at gunshows out here.

Many of the older 6" .31's are the lower quality brass frame replicas like those imported by FIE.

Have had various 6" steel frame ones but generally these were not up to the quality fit, finish and timing of more recent 4" Uberti's.

If you are buying an older 6" replica online; recommend you only buy if you get an inspection period to check the gun out.

p.s. Thanks mec for posting that original Colt lettered to Robert E. Lee family. Great piece of history! :hatsoff:

For what it is worth many of the original 31 caliber pocket pistols aren't priced that high as compared to some other originals. In other words if you are planning on spending $250 or more on a replica- you may get a "shootable" original for $900 or so.
