How do we store our percussion rifles long term, with the hammer on the nipple or the hammer half cock? thanks!

For storage of percusion guns I put the hammer down on an oil soaked patch to prevent moist air from entering. :idunno:

I rest mine on the nipple and everything, inside and out, is coated with bore butter. They don't really get stored that long though. I always have a desire to take them back out.

I take the nipple out and let the hammer down. I feel better knowing I can see the threads. I have a check list and go over each gun,...each month. I look for rust from one end to the other. Maybe this is a little excessive, but I have several guns and I can't take a chance on rust ruining my guns.

i wipe mine down with clenzoil inside and out, never had a rust issue. won't hurt the wood too.
