I have 2 identical Hatfields....Both 50 cal. flint that I personally purchased new in St. Josephs, Mo. in the late '80's when visiting the Hatfield factory. One unfired, the other has been my go-to deer rifle for over 50 years. Have been thinking about selling the unfired one on and off for a decade or two but finding it difficult to let go. Beautiful and very accurate rifles!

EDIT: It has been a long time, but I remember that I had a choice of a barrel among 3 options as well a stock quality. I questioned them on the barrels and finally chose Pedersoli barrels for both rifles and the select grain stocks. Happy I did as the Pedersoli barrel in my go-to deer Hatfield is very accurate...more so than I could ever take advantage of..!

I won 2 on an auction site (Gunbroker) a 54 cal percussion and a 45 cal flintlock. Both had some minor issues, which I was able to correct. The stocks just needed a good cleaning and some Renaissance wax. Anyway they were fine rifles when I got finished. The 54 cal turned out to be a cheek slapper for me and one of my officers fell in love with it. When I retired he was promoted to my position of Lt. I gifted it to him and he has taken several deer with it.
I still have the flintlock and it is a tack driver. First picture was when I received them.

Shooting offhand at 32 yards. Several called flyers and working up a load it likes.

Those Hatfields are nice-looking rifles, but that extreme droopy butt stock has so much drop that I can’t get comfortable trying to look down the sights when shouldering the gun.
I've shot a lot of different shaped rifles with differing drop. I always wondered if there was a school of though to each. By that I mean the local favored way of holding. Haven't found anything in the old books if anyone knows.
