Ain't it cute?? :rotf:

It's a Philadelphia Darringer PC .45 cal, w/3-1/4" rifled barrel... :)

This little devil is going to be fun to play with...

Thank's for looking,
Danny.. :hatsoff:

Yep, they are fun.
Got one myself.
No kidding, a guy at my shooting range gave it a try at 50(!) meters distance. :shocked2: And hit the target. :haha:

Enjoy your new baby!

50 meters you say, Dang man that's great, what a shot, but being from Tennessee and everything....how far is 50 meters in feet or yards.... :haha: ....no really.

1 meter = 0,9144 yards
50m is a little less than 55 yards then. :hatsoff:

Danny, I know that I am older than you, but remember me in your will because I really like that pistol.

We, the simple minded of the south, being ever so uneducated in the ways of the "Yankee's", humbly do thank you, kind sir... :haha: Yes dear Scarlet, we do give a damn... :rotf:

Thank you, & forgive that dab of humor.
Danny... :hatsoff:

1 ft = .3048 meters exactly.
1 meter then = 3.2808 ft = 39.3701 inches which is a hair less than 39 3/8 inches.

Romeoh,
Yes, methinks you have it backwards. :v

One yard = 0.9144 meters
 :hatsoff:

I don't know the numbers but it looks about right.

Of course thats right!
My mistake, sorry!!! :surrender:

:v Great leetle gun, you will enjoy shooting it (.440ball and ~20 gr. fffg). It's finished quite nicely. I got mine at a club meeting for $30 several years back and refinished it---and have enjoyed it for these years. :hatsoff:

I posted this pistol on the ALR forum, also with the question about what loads to use and most of them are, (in a round about way) saying that this little pistol is basically unsafe to shoot, with the ball bouncing back and hitting them. :shocked2:

Is there any evidence that shows this pistol was used in the 19th century and would it have been able to kill or wound its intended target??

Please tell me your honest opinions, cause i'am already leaning toward sending it back for a refund. :(

I'am not looking to use this little pistol for any type of self defence, but to me its like owning a "Croch Rocket", just because i have a motorcycle that'll do 190 miles an hour, doesn't mean i want it to. Just knowing that it will, would be enough. Same thing with this pistol, it may not be used for self defence, but it would be nice to know it could. :hmm:

Thanks,
Danny.. :hatsoff:

What about a .445 ball would that be to big. I had a friend that use to have a .45 cal rifle and sold it and he gave me all his round balls, which were .445, would they work??

I can remember when CVA came out with those little "Belly Cannon" in kit form. TOW sold them for $29.95 and our club bought several for shoot prizes. Something being hit at 50 meters would indeed have bad luck on their side! I always wished that CVA should come out with a flinter model and have a little more barrel length!

Cool, I have an Uberti ( I think) in .41 cal. A friend gave it to me a few years ago as it had been sitting in his garage forever. It can’t hardly hit the broad side of a barn. He said he had kept it loaded with small shot as a “snake gun”.

I don't know what caliber was used, but John Wilkes Booth used a similar looking derringer when he killed Abraham Lincoln. I saw the gun in the museum in the basement of Ford's Theater in Washington, D. C. a few years back.

So, yes, I think that gun could kill someone with a good shot.

What would recoil be like with 20gr of 3F? I'm just curious. Oh, and even if that .44 ball is just coming out that barrel at 600fps, it's still producing 102ft-lbs at the muzzle. The US Army considers any projectile carrying at least 50 ft-lbs of energy as a potentially lethal projectile.
