Im looking at a Pedersole 12ga side by side. Do you think this would be a good gun for turkey?

Yes, it should work fine. Is it the choked one? I had a Navy Arms double .12 ga that had cylinder bore barrel and it took a couple of turkeys. If that one is choked you could get a few more yds. I limited myself to around 25 yds.

got one, had it for about 10 yrs, after some teething problems, mostly my fault, took a turkey 33 yds,(70 g 2ff,# 5shot) cheated thou.used a aa shot cup ,just cut off compression thing on bottom, seems to hold pattern better, also shoot round ball, got a mold an shoot a .690"ball,with stout loads it comes back at you cause its a light shot gun, can,t go wrong withit

Pedersoli makes a good gun. It is hard to tell from the photo just which one that is. Early on they built some very light ones, just over five pounds, a sweet gun to carry but recoil can be brutal if you load over 1 1/8 ounces of shot, one ounce is better. The current production 12 gauges run about 7 1/4 pounds and can be loaded quite a bit heavier.
As others have mentioned, choke makes all the difference, a choked 20 will easily outrange a cylinder bore 12. Of course, if you want to be historically accurate, choke ain't it.

You might want to be aware that Pedersoli shotgun bores tend to run on the small side. I find 13 gauge wads to be a better fit in my Pedersoli 12

I have the lighter one from Navy Arms a very early one. Had it since 74, shoots very well, chrome lined barrels are choked M-F.
Shoot 1 to 1 1/8 oz. The gun is just over 5 Lbs. and swings very fast. Can carry it all day, loading supplies in my coat pockets. Since its a light 12 I've not gone beyond std. 12ga loadings. One must remember the std. loading for a 12ga and black powder are not the same as what the smokless shooters use today. The 1 to 1 1/8 load is a std. 12ga. load for black. In loading I use a over powder card, 1/2" fiber (Alcan), and a thin over shot card. Works very well. TF

Hi there, I've never shot a turkey, but last duck season I shot thirty canadian geese with out too much trouble. Most Pedersoli 12g shotguns don't have chokes, but their 10g does and comes in camo  . Just thought, in NZ we are allowed to use lead in our ML shotguns but should still be OK with bismuth or steel (as long as your chokes are not too tight and you use shot cups to protect the bore).
Happy Shooting

I picked up a 12 gage Pedersoli at Cabela's. The barrel is threaded for interchangable chokes and it comes wit three different chokes. I believe it came with a full, modified and improved cylinder. I added the extra full later. The only thing I do not like about it is one lock is very crisp and the other seems softer and a bit slow.

Yes I agree, all the Pedersoli doubles I have owned I have had to fiddle with the locks :shake: with the exception of the Mortimer 12g of Pedersoli.
