Has anyone read "Tough Trip Through Paradise" by Andrew Garcia? Superb first hand account of a trapper and trader in the Rockies.
"Keep the Last Bullet For Yourself" (Little Bighorn/Custer) is another interesting read and so controversial at one time it couldn't get published.

Yak: I'll second you on Garcia's book. A great read for sure. Have not read your second title.

Start with Ekert's "The Frontersman" and then read the remaining 5 books in this series," The Making of America. They are eye opening and also controverstional, yet thaught provoking.
