Hey y'all! First time poster, definitely a 'newbie' to this sort of thing as well. I do a lot of Ren Faires and historical SCA events with my girlfriend as landsknechts.

Got a couple of requests all tied into really. I'd love some good period resources about Landsknechts and their use of firearms beyond just the pop history stuff.

Second big ask is recommendations on sellers or gunsmiths making/selling period accurate (or at least the appearance of) matchlocks like those I've pictured below. Pulled two of them from the Capandball website - but they're out of stock of those particular designs. I'm also not a fan of the longer fishtail models that predominate a lot of replica storefronts like Veteran Arms or the "Early Arquebus" styles sold. I know beggers can't be choosers - but I would like to tend towards earlier and shorter designs. Budget wise I don't want to go over eighteen hundred if I can help it - and that includes shipment up to Alaska.

Truth be told - the weapon doesn't even have to fire, I'm mostly going to be using it for demonstrations of functionality rather than putting stuff down a range. At certain point though it seems to be cheaper to order a fully functional weapon, even custom built, than trying to find a specific accurate non-firing replica.

I appreciate all the help or even brief consideration - thank you guys!

If you research these, and have any skills, or know someone who does, they are easy to make. A correct barrel is the hard part, you can get that custom made

This is extensive! Thank you - I'll start digging into this!
Yes' the new way backwards ' youle find lots on this forum! .While you can get costly getting precise copys of barrels ect I made a lot from octagonal smooth barrels Mostly the ' Mary Rose ' sort Venition & 40 cal as for international style matches this helps score wise but any smooth barrel will do .
lots of options going earlier like your Landsknecht .You allready have wild emagination doing that early stuff .I did a Pensic once . As one regular ' Primitive Rondesvous 'follower once remarked about SCA "You think' We' got our oars out of the
water ? These Guys (SCA ) have Really !got thier oars out of the Water !! " ' My Lord' 'My Lady ect ' I had fun at any sort of event going And more locally hunted week at a time with a rifled snap matchlock .NZ Dept of Conservation require a rifle to hunt in the regions . they' conserve' vast tracks of native forests There was a SCA" Insipient Shire of the Burning Sun ' but it didnt last. On this forum its getting Quite fashonable after all it is 'the new way backwards '& there allready shooting muzzle loaders & spurn the inline abominations .
