I am looking for a supplier of thin transparent layers of horn for lanterns. I am having trouble finding a source.

Any suggestions?

you want horn or mica ( like they used in old wood stoves)? That's what is used in my lantern, it actually layered stone that you can split with a knife. I've also used real thin rawhide...Bud

Hi. I am looking for horn. I have made up a couple round lanterns with mica I bought from a wood stove store. The mica is split too thin and is damaged by anything more that looking hard at it. I am looking for a source that sells the mica a little thicker.

As for the horn. I am wanting it for some early style round lanterns. I use glass for the square ones.

I made a glass vendor mad a while back, not on purpose. He was trying to sell me seed glass, which has way too many bubbles to be PCHC in my opinion. After looking at a couple other options, that I was not looking for glass that looked 200 years old, I wanted glass that looked like new glass 200 years ago. Makes sense right? He just left me standing there. Oh well.

I am starting to scavenge older glass windows when I see them to gets some less than perfect glass for in the future.

I will contact John at the link. Thanks.
