Looking to buy Flintlock Rifle

I am glad you all reminded me of the Colorado draw! This is the first year in the last 29 that I actually will have the time to go hunting in the Fall.

Save your money and buy what you really want. Finding that may not be too easy. I just put up
two at our range's swap meet and no one showed the
slightest interest or even knowing what they were.
This is post 1864 country and center fire...before
that....nothing exists.

Just ordered a Lyman Trade Rifle .54 Cal Flint for $420 shipped to my door! Just can't justify (even saving up) a $1,000 gun any time soon. Based on all of your recommendations this should be a great gun (at an amazing price) to learn on. Thanks again for you recommendations and I'm looking forward to learning all about flintlocks.

Well, I have to admit that is a good price and if
that is what it takes the important thing is you are now "In It" and the learning begins good on you.

Couple of my buds have Lyman Trade Rifles, but I've never owned one. I can report that both are extremely happy with them and certainly punch their tags reliably.

To tell you something interesting about them and their rifles, both own "better" guns including customs that they're real proud of. But the Trade Rifles do most of the hunting while the fancier models are mostly range queens.

if you opout for a Austen-Halleck Mountain Rifle flintlock make sure it says make in Missouri. those made in Utah are and abomination and junk.
