I currently have a decent sized supply of #11 CCI primers for my single shot caplock pistol. The primers are very loose. I know I can pinch them and that's what i have been doing to make them work.

I've read where people have used a pointed punch to widen the ends of the nipples. Has anyone done this with success?

I have no experience with widening nipples. but a lot of pinching caps. It works for me 'cause I have various #11 percussion rifles. Maybe I need to rethink this but i have no knowledge on stretching stainless steel.

If you have a caliper measure the nipple about halfway down the taper. If its less than .160 CCI caps will be loose. If it's long enough you can shorten it , the number you;re looking for is .174 at the midway point on the taper. If it's too short you need a another nipple. Trying to widen it at the end may work but it;s a hardened one it will most likely break.
