Loose/poorly fitted breech plug

When drilling the touch hole, I only kiss the surface of the breech plug, enough to make a small witness mark. I then remove and file a very small notch just enough to show clearance. I then take a conned bit and internally counter the vent hole slightly.
By drilling into the lug directly, you do risk loosing too many threads and you’ll end up with a plug being off from where its intended witness mark was, this can happen especially if the breech plug is just slightly over filed. This is why I allow the barrel makers to fit the plugs, because they fit the plugs with a lathe, which is much more precise than doing it by hand.
To correct it you need to weld a very small shim to the face of the plug, i recommend a MIG welder as you can weld it with very low amps without risking damage to the plug. Bobby Hoyt can fix this for $25 bucks too.
