Outside of the human suffering, imagine the valuable guns, currency, coinage, rare furniture, paper records, photos, etc., that have been destroyed over the centuries by fires, floods, warfare, etc. Mind-boggling! Of course human tragedy takes precedence, but when you see how few, say, Revolutionary War items exist (or any category), it makes one appreciate those items that have survived un-touched. Don't get me started on the mice, insects, neglect, etc. Oh, well, we can't take it with us! Just pondering.

Here is an antidote for you. Set aside a day and use it to tour the Philadelphia Museum of Art. You might particularly like the Arms and Armor Gallery.
I don't know if you are Springfield DELCO or MONTCO. But either way it is an easy day trip.

I am indeed aware of and have visited the von Kinebusch (sp.?) Collection! Thanks! If you are aware of the English dealer in ancient arms & armor, Peter Finer, you will know how rare and EXPENSIVE such items are! No wonder there's such a strong market for replica swords, etc. One wonders how much stuff was tossed into trash collections over the years; I recall as a youngster seeing a thrown-out WW1 helmet that others had retrieved from the trash!!
