I have come across a collection of approximately 80 Louis Lamour books (mostly softcover with about 10 hardcover). The seller believes that the collection lacks about 30 of Lamour's books. Also included are a few Westerns by other authors. What would a fair price be for such a collection of Westerns? He has expressed a desire to sell them. Thanks for any ballpark estimates!

hey u got to start some where. Make an offer of say $30 and work from there.

I read and am collecting a second full set of books by David Thompson ( Wilderness series) and i paid over $80 for the first 20 books on ebay about 5 years ago.

I would say the only thing of value there is the hardcover ones, as you can get the paperbacks just about anywhere.. I see them all the time at the flea market & yard sales from .25 cents to $1. each.

I guess they are worth to You what you want to pay for them, if he will sell them to ya for that. :hmm:

I agree. Paperbacks are common and cheap. Hardcovers, in good condition, and especially first editions, are a much better value.
That's what I always look for in collecting good books - a hardcover, first edition.
But, Louis Lamour books are so common that I don't think they have too much collector value -not yet anyway. They may have some in the future.
Myself, I prefer Zane Grey, even though he did get a little fantastic in some of his writing.

I got a boot box full of Louie La More books you could trade me out of and cover the shipping!
must be 50-60 books +/-

Keep your money for powder!

PT me if you like.

Agreed, they're worth what you're willing to pay for them. For that many books, depending on the condition, I doubt I'd be willing to go much over $50. And I'd be paying that for the hardbacks. as previous said, paperbacks are a dime a dozen.

I wouldn't pay over fifty cents a piece for the lot of them, but a better idea would be to spend the money on shooting supplies and check them out from the library

I just gave a box of 'em away to a thrift store this morning. I read 'em when I was young, then at least once more over the years. Louis L'amour was a great writer. But can't see keeping the bookshelf filled with books I've read multiple times.

You can usually find his books (paperback) at yard sales and flea markets @ .50 to $1.00 each. New they can run up to $5.00. Sometimes you can find them at yard sales for as little as .15 - .25. I have most of his books that I collected over the years at prices from .10 to $1.00. I think if you offered no more than .50 apiece, you'd get a pretty good deal. You can't hardly go wrong with Louis La'Amour. I still dig one out every now and then when I want to "get away" for a while.

If you're not concerned with the cover condition, you can get some cheaper when the cover is tattered or missing. That doesn't affect the content as long as pages are not missing.
