Is that a beech stock on that old girl?
Beech was mostly for military weapons for the export I have restore several shotguns which are Sycamore for which I would say this is one, it may have been built using this wood or restocked very early from new .

Ah, sycamore. I hadn't considered that. I would have expected more "flecks" showing in the grain. Your British sycamore is probably different than ours.
That stock is what our American beech looks like. It doesn't detract from the gun for me, just more interesting. I've seen them in oak and ash too as I'm sure you have to.
