The only thing better than not wiping between shots is not having to wipe the pan!
A snowstorm moved out of here last night, and the air mass behind it was a clear, cold 25 degrees & low 44% humidity. The pan just kept a light film of dry brown in it with a sprinkling of red specks...shot 40 shots and was done in no time...beautiful morning !! :) :)

Wow! RB, if we ever got that much humidity around here we'de sure be in a sweat. About 10 to 15, especially in summer, is all we get. We brush the pan once in a while, not sure it even needs that. Love this dry air. :winking:

I bet that's right living out there...and you probably can't imagine July & August here in the Carolinas...
temperatures & humidity usually about the same in the mid 90's to high 90's.

I leave the house almost as early as I do when I deer hunt so I can shoot and get back by midmorning before the temps reach their peak, but the humidity is still up in the 90's.

Within about 60 seconds after a shot, the pan is a wet, glistening soup...I wipe the pan & frizzen bottom after every shot, plus run a pipe cleaner through the vent...then every few shots I clean everything off inside and out with alcohol and start fresh.
So yes, 44% humidity here this morning was fantastic! :)

I do know about humidity, I grew up in Mississippi and lived a few yrs. in Florida and Louisiana back in the 50s
but wasn't shooting flinters at that time so didn't realize it caused such problems but sure knew I didn't like it.
Only problem with this low humidity is some think they don't have to clean their guns and they don't and the barrels are eventually ruined.

There are times here in central B.C. that the humidity gets up in the 70's but that's rare - usually stays in the 40 to 55% range.
:In the Carolina's it must be like shootng in a drizzle- all thie time. It was like that in South-western Ontario where I grew up. 85F at night with 99% hmitidty - daytime in the 90's with 99% humidity with not a cloud in the sky. HORRID place to live.

Roundball, you must be in the Piedmont...I won't claim the air is dry here in the western Carolina Mtns, but it ain't as bad as you've got...Hank PS consider this a formal invite to come to the Western Carolina Offhand Championships of the French Broad Rifles, in Marshall, NC..July 9th to 11th...it's a campout...bring your own water, free firewood...Hank

Yes, in Raleigh it's a lot more humid than over there in the mountains...beautiful country there...thanks for the invite, let me know if there's a website with detailed info

Hank - Bring your own water? I would expect Zonnie to say something like that. Saw the movie "Cold Mountain" is that a real place in North Carolina? Rocky /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wild Card, yeah, Cold Mtn is in Haywood County, just west of where I live in Buncombe Co....the movie caused a local stir, 'cause the descendents and kin of the people in the story are still here...they thought that the portrayal of the "Home Guard" was extreme...in real history, the Confederate who was heading home was caught and shot...
A lot of what was described at least caught the spirit of what went on here in the mountains. Just north of me is "Bloody Madison County", so named for stuff that went on between unionists and secesh...the most famous incident is
"The Shelton Laurel Massacre"...when most of the Shelton family were wiped out...the granny, and some kids included.
Round Ball,
we don't have a website up yet, but one of our newly joined members is in that business, and offers to put one up. As soon as we do, I'll post it here..
The reason that we want you to bring your own water is, we've been at the north end of the pasture, and we see were some of the stream that borders the range originates..believe, bring your own water...Hank
