Going to try casting my own balls and now the proud owner of a Lee Production Pot IV and a Lee mold for .395 balls. Looking over the information that came packed with the above, I see that it calls for the mold to be lubed in a few spots with their particular brand of bullet lube, item #so-and-so. Lee also warns not to use liquid alox. A quick google reveals that item #so-and-so is a "stick" made of 50% alox and 50% bee's wax.

Going to call around this morning and see who sells this stuff or a reasonable substitute.

What are you guys using?

You can lube it with plain beeswax.
I don't lube mine at all. I cast with my molds completely clean and dry. I just apply a coating of lube for storage. :m2c: :results:

Lee molds. I use a very little bit of oil or grease once in a while on the hinge only. Most of the time none as Lee's are cheap to replace and it may take years to wear the hinge. On the mold itself you can use mold prep spray or just do as a lot of us do. Smoke from a match or candle or carbide lamp. I am assumeing this is a roundball mold. If it is the soot should let the ball release from the mold just by opening it. If not a light tap at the hinge, not the mold with a wood or plastic mallet will release the ball.
When you get the lead and mold at the correct temp and get your casting routine right you should be casting shiney roundballs at 2 or 3 a minute.
