I have been looking at ordering a new Lyman arperature rear and globe front sight for my Lyman Deerstalker Percussion rifle, but so far the cheapest is TOW at $82 for the rear and $31 for the 17 AEU globe front, plus shipping. Lyman direct is $93 and $37. Anyone know a cheaper source for new or used ones of these?

At $135 all in for sights that would be almost half what I paid for the gun new to start with Thanks.

i've been considering one myself for my .54 hawken, but they look bulky to me. i like the look's of the one that T/C makes.

Take a look at Midsouth Shooters Supply. I just bought a 57gpr one for my Lyman GPH for $72.05; they show the 57sml for the same price.

Good luck

Eric

I sure like the pair that I have. You get what you pay for. The TC peep is a little more compact, but harder to adjust.

Your right. The 57 is adjustable in the field. Not to mention you can set the sights to work with a range finder. So you can set the sight for the shot. No hold over or under. Ron

I have this exact set up on my Traditions 50 caliber Hawken caplock. The 57SML is cheaply built and is not worth the money. I had to use Devecon 10/110 on it in order to keep the windage screw in alignment with the site. It is however more accurate than the open sights. I would look for a peep rear sight from another manufacture.

You have obviously not used them much at all. I have installed over 20 sets of these, and have never had the problem your talking about. Send it in they will replace it. In all honesty these are the best as far as adjustable sights go. Your evaluation is not on par with what most see. Ron

Relative to quality, I must agree, that the Lyman sights I have or have seen are top quality. Lyman customer service is excellent, they are quick to respond and will send parts, often at no charge.

Good shooting.

Those sights are not cheap anywhere. Mine was $75 and that was over 10 years ago. On the other hand, those sights do make my Great Plains rifle a lot more accurate. I had the original Lyman rear sight and it wobbled badly, so I ordered the tang sight. (Then I learned about pressing the original Lyman rear sight to reduce the wobble. Not a simple task, but it worked quite well) The tang sight arrived so I used it and have no regrets.

Check shipping when ordering, sometimes the cheapest place ain't once shipping is added in.

Dead on about the shipping and handling charges. Both Natchez and Mid South add 10-20 dollars just for handling because I am in Canada, then the regualr postage goes on. TOW starts out $5 per item higher but no specail handling fees and only 15.99 to ship USPS parcel.

Thanks all for the info you provided. Good to know TOW is still all round a great place to deal, specially if you are outside the U.S.

Love those sights. I have 4 of them now but when I first started out, I had three caliber barrels and only one stock. I was able to shoot the 32 GM drop in at 25 yds to the same point of aim as the 54 cal GM and factory 50 cal at 75 yds. Well worth the price.

FWIW I find it somewhat humorous that we think that a sight that costs a third or less of what a production gun costs outrageous while we will buy an entry level bolt gun at walmart and slap a $600- $1000 scope on it .

Great point, I have lots of guns where the scope cost as much or more than the gun. Still, the Lymans are a lot of money for what they are.

I find I shoot a lot better and have more fun when using those rifles which have peep sights now days. If I ever find another of those small TC peeps for my TC Seneca I will be able to have a peep on all my rifles.

If you don't want to pay for it dont get it. Simple!!!!! They are a high quality sight and well worth the money to those that want to get the most out of their rifle. Take it or leave but quit crying about it.FRJ

Not me.

A pre-64 Win with a 3 X 9 Redfield

Another with a 6.5 X 20 Leuopold

A M1A match with a 6 X 18 Redfield

I have less than $1000 into the scopes, the Leuopold being NOS.

I got the M1A with scope for less than $1100, the rifle new with 3rd gen scope mount, cleaning kit, sling from SA. Scope was used but good as new.

Whoops I slipped folks, sorry.....

57SML are great on my Hawkens. I found mine on ebay for < $50 each.

I still need to get better front sights to match.

Realize a peeper is hard to find target in low light. Need big arpeture and a post you can see
