The wedge on my Deerstalker seems too short. When I first got it 6 years ago It wouldn't stay in so I put a bend into it,thinking it would help but truthfully it didn't.I was at the range this morning and realized that before every shot I'm always tapping it back in and that's no good.I also figure that a loose wedge would create unconsistant accuracy from shot to shot.My remedy will be to make a longer one.Has anyone else experienced this with their Deerstalker?

I have never had a problem with mine, but it is about 15 years old now. I would just order a new one from Lyman, and tell them of your problem. They may send you a new one at no charge.

Perhaps they would,
Does your wedge come out on the other side by very much?Mine is just so it's into the metal on the other side.

If it has a slot attached to the barrel where the wedge pin fits through just tap it down a little so the wedge pin fits a little tighter. Do it a little at a time because you don't want to have to beat the pin out.

There's a couple of things you can do to help this.

First put the wedge in a vise and bend it slightly. Try it after each bend. When it snugs in to the point you have to drive it out with a screwdriver and hammer, your done.

Second cut a slot in your wedge to accept a size 6 finish nail. Cut the nail down and use it to drill a pilot hole in the side of your barrel channel. Put the wedge in and drive the pin thru it and you'll never loose it.

Did you wash and dry it? :rotf:

Seriously, the best fix is to keep the wedge straight and press a slight bend in the under lug for an increase in tension.

The bend may be giving an illusion of shortness in function. I would try to take the bend out.

Also, longer wedges are available. Call Dixie, Track, ML Builder Supply...

That is how mine is, just through the metal with nothing sticking past. Mine has a small bend, or hump to it, and is still the original.
