I get to build it. I grew up down the street from Lyman, finally have one.

It’s new to me. I was in the right place at the right time. The catalog in the box is 2005.

Those are nice kits, I like to thin the comb and reshape the cheek piece then a bit of stain to richen the color.

I’m following pretty much the same lines, I like the little tear drop shape on the lock panels on the original I looked at. I’m still undecided on finish, but I have plenty of time to figure it out, and it’s usable in the white. It has the 1/60 barrel, I’m getting excited

Making progress, refining the lines. It’s starting to feel very nice in the hand and balance is just about right. Getting hard to resist the urge to sneak it to the range. Not sure about metal finish yet. I see a flintlock in the near future. Need something to build when this is done.

Just finished a Traditions Frontier 50 rock lock.
Fired first fouling shot today
Kits are way easier than my first one.

I’m still trying to figure out what to do with the metal finish.
The “cold blue” I did on the T/C came out kind of light and uneven, but ended up looking ”aged”, I like it and it shoots good. So I left it.
Plum brown vs rust brown is what I’m tossing back and forth.

The oil/wax finish on the T/C kit I did in 2008 has really taken a nice darker even tone over the years, probably do something similar.

Got some oil on the stock, needs a few more coats. Still working on the metal

I’m not real sure what to say about that stock. I don’t remember seeing a piece of walnut with grain that straight that still managed to be striking. I LIKE IT!

Anyone ever put a little shape on the “snail” I really don’t care for the square look

Had to, probably going to ditch the Allen head screw and just peen it in and file it flush. It’s interfering with nipple at the moment and it really doesn’t need to be there.
