I'm want to get a Lyman GPR .54 flint kit for left hand. I can't find it anywhere except for a couple places but they're wanting over $500 for the kit. I could buy a rifle already put together for around $450. The right hand kits around around $325 though. The reason I want a kit mainly is to be able to burn a drawing or design into the stock of the gun to make it more personal. Would I be able to get a gun already put together and burn into the stock of a gun that is already been finished? Thanks

Might be worth a phone call to Midsouth. They may be able to special order it. Their prices are excellent on what they do stock.

Yes, you can certainly modify a production stock to your specifications, just as easily as a kit stock. You will probably want to remove the production finish first.

That's what I figured. I would have to re-finish the stock afterwards to make it look the best. I'm gonna go ahead and give them a call and see what they can do. I'll work on it this year and will be more than ready when the next hunting season rolls around or maybe some hogs in the summer.

I don't believe that Lyman makes a left handed kit for the GPR. They do make a left handed finished GPR, though. I ended up building a Sitting Fox parts set left handed Poor Boy. The one left handed kit that I did find was offered by Dixie gun works: a Tennessee rifle. The only had a limited supply when I checked and that was last March. I heard that it was a decent gun although a bit heavy.

Dixie sells a .50 cal left hand flint lock version of the Lyman Trade Rifle, they call is a Hawken. It has brass trimings and a round cap box. It' made by Investarms the same company that makes Lyman's rifles. The price is $425 the last time I looked.

I sure which Lyman would offer a left hand kit rifle. I further wish they would offer a left hand Trade Rifle but I guess we lefties are lucky they offer finished left hand rifles at all.

Shoot safely.
