Adirondack46r,

Where did you purchase the GPR? I've seen several of these same posts about barrel not fitting properly. I'll check mine carefully when it arrives.

Thanks for the information

Charlie,

Got it from Midsouth a couple of weeks ago. I read the threads as well and when it arrived the fit was very poor. I sent it back and the shipped me a new one. The fit is much much better.

I am very happy with Midsouth. I am a little disappointed in the fit/finish/quality of both the product and the customer service from Lyman. I disassembled my gun this weekend gave it a good cleaning and got familiar with all of the mechanics.

I think it is a solid gun, but I am surprised at the number of quality issues that consumers are willing to accept from Lyman, e.g. stock fit, nipples needing to be replaced, hammers needing to be heated and bent, etc. My expectations were higher than this.

In classic consumer satisfaction survey terms, I am "somewhat satisfied".

46r,

It seems quality has become a big issue no matter where you go. I'll give you the run down when I receive the GPR.

Good Luck when you take it to the range. Pass along any positive shooting information. Loads etc.

Target load that has worked very well:

50 grns GOEX 2Fg, Rem cap, Hornady ball .530, patch is cut at muzzle from strip. Patch is Wally Mart pillow ticking boiled in big pot to shrink tight and remove sizing, then washed and dried in machines on highest temp settings. Lube and between shots cleaner is Moose Milk- 2oz Ballistol, 2oz Murphy's Oil Soap, water to make a quart.

White Fox
5th of the 7th, Air Cav, '69-70

NB: I tried Triple Seven, but kept getting a build up of hard residue 1-2 inches ahead of where the ball should seat against the powder charge. Had to really force the patched ball to get past this, which didn't help accuracy. To my mind, the only advantage of BP substitutes is availability at general sporting goods stores.

WhiteFox,

Welcome Home. 777 and Pyrodex are very available where I live. I like Pyr Select FFG. The 777 works well but you are right depending on which gun it can have a crud build up.

Thank you for your service. GPR has not arrived yet, if I don't receive it tomorrow I'll make a call for status.

I feel the same way I really am not satisfied just going to live with it the fit on mine is still not what it should be.

If TC made a clone of the GPR to TC's quality standards I would sell my Lyman GPR that day and buy one.

If I had i to do over i would of spent the extra money on a Pedersoli

From the looks of all this seems you're going to have to do a bit of experimenting to find the right load for YOUR gun  .
What I found helped mine was an over-powder felt wad. Really tightened up 50-yard groups 70 gr FFF .530 PRB.

I read the Lyman user manual last night and then read the InvestArms manual that came with the GPR.

The Lyman manual states you can use Pyrodex or other substitutes. The InvestArms warns you to use black powder only!

The barrel is stamped Black Powder only. Is it safe to use Pyrodex Select?
