One of the shooting games at shoots and rendezvous was an event called a "stake shoot", in which two or more teams competed to see who could cut a 2x4, 2x6 or what-have-you, in half first. The Minie involved had a flat nose added to the mold shape that extended the nose forward slightly and was totally flat like a true Wad-cutter style bullet. It's heavy weight and flat nose was thought to do more damage to a wooden post than the standard Minie design. During the 70's I used to do similar with my ole Potsdam musket "Tea Cup", by loading the big hollow based .69 Minie in backwards. Accuracy was limited, but it was on the verge of total instability when it hit and either acted like the world's biggest hollow point or tumbled on impact. Either way, it'd make a hole you could put a fist through sometimes and really sent splinters flying. I'd tell my teammates, "Let me fire first and you guys cut that board across even with the crater I make"...we generally won! So much for "cheaters never prosper!" :haha: :blah:
