THE WOODS OF S.C.
here are a few crummy photos I took on my porch, it has been raining here. this is a Lyman 54 caliber GPR i rebuilt over the last couple of weeks. I had it for sale but nobody wanted it. so, I made it into an authentic fake Hawken! I completely stripped everything! all the metal, I scrubbed all the sickening righting off the barrel except for the sel, # and date code underneath by draw filing the barrel. I reshaped the stock, especially the cheek rest. I took a pound of wood off this thing! I colored the wood and sealed it. I added a Hawken simi buck horn rear site. I don't know if this gun had ever been shot it was so clean, so i did! I zeroed it in at 50 yds. 75gr. of 2f it sings a pretty tune. I will take some better photos when the weather is better. i might sell this one but I don't have to and I like it. but if somebody is interested send pm,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Great job! I have the identical rifle in left hand. I'm hoping mine comes out close to yours when I'm finished. Could you give details on your metal treatment? I was thinking of browning but in the pictures yours looks more like a a grey.

Yes, I’d like to know what you did with the metal and what you used to stain the stock as well?

You knocked that on out of the park! Excellent jobb. I would have to keep that one if I were you.
I noticed the arrows in the nail keg and had to smile! I have a bunch of arrows in my shop from days gone by. I just can't get rid of them?

WOWZERS!!!!! That gun looks great.i need to do that to mine.

It was worth doing to get rid of that stupid PC righting all over the barrel. I pointed the rear panels, I left the front alone as I see some pointed at both ends, sone pointed at one end, and some not pointed at all, so I split the difference, i also raised the tang and the trigger guard because it was deep into the wood. I bedded the tang to accomplish this and to get rid of the gap they had, and i shimmed the trigger guard with a wood shim I made,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

If it were mine and I decided to keep it. I’d go ahead and install Davis Deer Slayer triggers and also drop in a L&R rpl lock.

You’ve already customized it significantly. I’ve done both to my GPR and the mechanical aspect is as smooth as glass. You’ve already brought it up to the next level, might as well go all the way. Just my thoughts?

the lock and triggers work fine. I adjusted the triggers, and they are as good as a Kibler,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
