Hey guys I have a rifle I’m curious about. I picked it up a few years ago in a gunshop really cheap.
It is a Lyman Trade Rifle .50 Percussion. The thing about it is when I look it up online it is not the rifle shown. This one is much nicer. It has a checkered stock, 2 wedges, and a patch box. Iron furniture no brass all browned. I’m assuming it is an older version of their trade rifle but I can’t find any info. Anybody know anything about these? It is really well finished and fitted and appears unfired. I will post pictures

I'm assuming that you are calling it a Trade Rifle because the barrel is marked as such? To me it looks like someone with above average skill took a Trade Rifle barrel and a Great Plains Rifle stock and performed a marriage adding a patch box, sling swivels and non-factory sights along with some stock wood removal/shaping and checkering. I like it.

I like the looks of the rifle myself. The checkering and overall workmanship, along with the shape of the stock. Just for curiosity, what did you pay for it? I agree with dragnetbill's remark.

I agree.
Someone has restocked the barrel and lock and has created a very nice rifle.

Looks like they set it in a GPR stock and reworked the stock to resemble the Pedersoli Missouri River Hawken. A most outstanding looking rifle IMO. Lyman Trade rifle barrels have been know to be very good shooters as well.
