I just recently picked up a lock for a flint lock. It is marked M&G Classic. I had never heard of them before, anyone have any info on them and comments as to their quality? Seems like a good lock, it throws lots of sparks.

Generally considered to be a good lock.

Tip Curtis was high on them and hated Chambers Silers, go figure. He got plumb heated discussing the matter with me the one time I went to his shop for parts. I think he liked the M&G locks thicker bolster that kept the mainspring out of the barrel channel.
i have one on my 40 SMR, it was always finicky for the first year. now it is good to go. had to break in i guess,,,,,,,

My MG Lock has been flawless.
I have one on this Mike Brooks Oerter style rifle. It works great. Larry Zorne has his M&G shop just southwest of Jackson, Ohio.
I bought one from Tip a few years ago when I was gathering up parts form my "retirement" rifle. He recommended it.
I then gave the parts to Jim Parker in Warrior, AL who fixed me up with a fine little transitional rifle used mainly for deer hunting. I'll have to say it has performed well. The only problem I had with the lock was that the frizzen was rebounding back on the flint and chipping it. I took care of that myself and its working fine now.

Hi,
I used Zorne's "Albrecht" lock on an Edward Marshall rifle. This is how it came:
This what I did with it:
Suffice to say I modified it a lot to fit the project but it also needed a lot of remedial work without those changes to bring it up to speed. I was not impressed with its original condition.

I agree. Because it was already in the finished gun, I just polished the contacting surfaces. Before lubing, I worked the lock a few times. Then polished any places that I saw rub marks.
