While cleaning my Seneca after a match today, I notice a capital 'M' stamped on the underside of the barrel. I suppose it COULD be a 'W' but believe it is a 'M'. Does anybody know what the marking means? Thanks much!!!

-----Chinese puzzle "is it a W is it a M is it a W is it a M-----COOL---I LIKE IT-----

You got me curious so I pulled the barrel on my Seneca. My barrel has a star stamped into the bottom flat. I seem to remember that early on T/C had some of its barrels made by outside sources. These marks may indeed indicate the barrel maker. Roundball knows more about T/Cs than anyone else I can think of and maybe he'll know the answer.

They don't proof mark barrels made in America. Probably denotes the barrel maker. Roundball will know.

I bet it stands for "Match".
When they make barrels sometimes they spend a little extra time on it lapping the bore and polishing it so it is just the thing for super accurate shooting.
I've heard that they will go to no ends to make the absolute, very best barrel to have when your shooting and that could explain the "M" for "Match" as in Matchlock.

If I remember correctly it is the stamp for Douglas barrels.

Rat Trapper, I am not calling you out, but, would love to know where you read/heard that. That would absolutely floor my buddy that thinks Douglas barrels are super. Do you have anything to back up your suggestion? Thanks!

Just what a guy in Maine who's with the TC Collectors asso.told me. I believe the barrels stamped with a heart/spade are Sharron barrels. The w/m stamp depends on how you look at it are Douglas barrels. May be someone else knows a bit more on barrel stamps and would be willing to jump in.

Yes! Inquiry minds want to know. Just picked up a .45 cal. (the price was right, FREE) and it has a â—Š stamped on the bottom flat. Gun is in excellent condition.

Ms and stars and now diamonds! Someone somewhere has got to have the answers. I've found nothing on the web about this.
