If I remember right, back in the 60's and early 70's we, as Americans, had a very high respect for Chinese made AK's. They worked when our M-16 wouldn't. China can build guns!

Oh please don't say we. Russian, Chinese or other wise, I never cared for them. Give me an M1A1 anyday over any AK. :v

Absolutely! Charley could dive into the water and pop up firing his rifle all day long. As for the M1A1, sure long range accuracy might be better but give me an AK any day when the work is close in.

But isn't this getting a little off topic? Frankly I didn't even think Val, Jr. was doing much with Navy anymore, maybe he is buying the cheapest product available just to keep the Navy Arms name alive.

Gentlemen.
Please quit discussing modern cartridge guns on the forum.
We talk of muzzle loaders here, not modern designs here.

The Chinese have a very capable manufacturing system and they are also very shrewd businessman. They will make whatever the customer is willing to buy at any level of quality that they are willing to pay for. If they wanted to make a high quality muzzleloader don't bet for a second that they couldn't. Says more about the specs that Navy Arms is after rather than Chinese capabilities.

Yeah well I'll take an American made custom muzzleloader over anything the Chinese call quality anyday.

I don't think anyone was discussing a custom muzzleloader, the pistol that is supposedly being manufactured certainly doesn't meet my definition of custom anyway. The Chinese make darn near everything these days, even a lot of the items you probably think are made in this country. If the Chinese have the capabilities to manufacture complex electrical products like the cell phone I have in my pocket and high end (yes they do those also) machine tools such as the Tormach I have in our manufacturing lab, what makes you think they wouldn't be able to make a good quality production muzzleloader if they wanted to?

You want a Chinese muzzleloader, by all means go for it. I'll stick to the American gun builders I know.

Maybe some arent lucky enough to afford a custom gun thus the made in China guns come into play or made in India..

The Italian and Spanish makers have a long tradition in ML manufacturing. China does not. There is also no accountability in China for poor materials or workmanship. My company deals with China.
My strong advise: Use safety glasses really good safety glasses. :hmm:

Lemme just change that advice.....'tell your mother-in-law to wear really good safety glasses...'

My statement wasnt directed at you it was just made as a general remark

Well as to no accountability. The Chinese government executed the managers of the dog food scandal, the lead toys scandal, etc.. If you embarrass the Chinese government fines and lawsuits are not the preferred remedy, a bullet is.

Kinda makes our "accountability" pale in comparison.

I've looked through the responses and couldn't find if anyone asked the question.......is it a PRC (Percussion) or is it a FLNT (Flint)?

Just maybe ......that was what it meant.....or not.

You know.....MAYBE that is what it means?? Never thought of that before. But, as someone posted earlier, Navy Arms admitted the pistol WAS made in China.
:hmm:

It is Percussion, but in this case PRC stands for Peoples Republic of China.

That's an interesting interpretation, I have never seen anything made in China marked "People's Republic of China" or any variation of it. The standard marking seen on tools, knives, clothing, bicycles, etc., etc., etc. is simply "China". It seems far more likely that PRC stands for "percussion" as said above.
