Hey, Bill, it's bigger than mine! Nice job. Without giving up any secrets, would you at least share what unit you were hunting in with a fellow Oregonian? Don

Bakeoven Bill,
Congratulations :applause:
Had a friend give me some bear stew and it was better
than any beef stew i have eaten.

I was hunting National Forest land in the Sled Springs Unit.

:thanks: 'Never hunted that region. Most of my hunting is Northern Coast Range and Willamette National Forest, South of Oakridge. Don

Chased? Wrassled? Hell, no, I've got 'em so certain of their own demise I just walk up to 'em, hand 'em the knife and say "Start skinning". ::

Bears tremble at the mere mention of "Bakeoven Bill"!!!

Yes, that was the same piece. Seems to shoot a little better when there's fur in the sights instead of paper. Maybe we should shoot furry 3X5 cards next time?

Shoot a little better with fur in the sights? If I remember right your shot missed the center of that card by less than a balls width. I'm looking forward to seeing the results for the team match.

Congratulations on the bear.

CONGRATULATIONS on the freezer add. While you where carrying it out, could you tell if it was a good size for a short coat? Or maybe a Highlanders' Cape? :applause:

Might make a good hat. Like I said, tweren't a very large bear.

See ya gots ya a new avitar. Good fer ya. :front:

Yeah, saw that one the first morning. It was sleeping by the rock its standing on. Got up to about 100 yards on it when it got up and started yawning and stretching. I could tell it was a small one so I just took some pictures.

what caliber, load, was it a prb or conical. i am attempting to take my first bear with prb this year. They are hitting the baits but i think they are nocturnal. The dog hunters scare then first. i am using 50 caliber prb over 100 grains of 3fg

.54 caliber, patched .530 round ball, .015 patch, 20 gauged lubed felt wad over 100 grains FFg. Bear was shot a 50 yards head on and slightly up hill. Ball went in at on the white chest mark and came out the back hip. The critter just rolled over and twitched a few times. Again, it was a small bear, but the load probably would have done the same on a large bear too. Good luck

Well, Bill you've made us all smile. Not as big a smile as you have on your face, then you earned it. I can only tell you what a grand departure it is from the everyday humdrum to see you and "Your Bear". And to read the comments of your friends and mine, well Bakeoven Bill, it's just mighty fine! congradulations and adios
