Has any one ever used the Mag-Spark. Its a two part stainless "nipple" which uses a 209 shotshell primer. I am looking for something to use on those rainy fall days. It is suppose to be water proof.

If they fit your nipple right regular #11 caps are as waterproof as anything.

Right on

You can seal the cap with wax or if you want to get fancy use nail polish around the base of the cap on the nipple.

Waterproofing a ML is much easier than one might think.

I haven't...I did try it's predecessor 12-15 years ago which used a small rifle primer...I thought it was more trouble than it was worth...when CCI came out with their #11 Magnum cap they were what I used on caplocks, and used "Kap Kovers" for waterproofing...which also serve as an extra safety measure.

You can Google it up or just order them through October Country if interested.

It’s a special HotShot nipple with a groove cut around it’s base that holds an "O-ring", then a snug fitting brass "bell" shaped cover slides down over the cap/nipple and the O-ring which seals everything up tight...some photos of them on one of my rifles:

#11 caps are treated with a sealant when they are made. This works to help keep moisture out. Although not 100% foolproof, it works pretty well. If you want to go one step further, a leather, "cows knee" will fit over your ignition area to keep out rain, and snow.

The only problem I have seen with difficult or non-ignition with normal percussion caps was on the first day of Deer Season back in 1985, when it pretty much misted or rained on an off all day long. We had 5 men hunting with percussion guns, and 2 of us using flint. None of the percussion guns fired when we tried to unload them in camp at the end of the day. The caps all fired, but the powder had gotten damp from being out all day. I had my nipple wrench in my tackle box, and loaned it, and priming powder to the men so they could put some priming powder down their patent breeches, or drums, and then use a new nipple to fire the guns. None of the percussion shooters had thought to bring a nipple wrench to camp! Both Flintlocks fired the first time we pulled the triggers. The five men were so angry and really so impressed that within 3 years all owned and were shooting flintlocks. I tried to tell them that their mistake was not covering the muzzle of their guns with something- even duct tape would have donethe trick- but they just decided that you couldn't trust a percussion gun to shoot after being out in that kind of weather all day. We all know that is not so.
