Just got my first issue of "Backwoodsman" I think it's called...disappointing...from what I understood it was to be another real good muzzleloading type magazine.

Are there any other good ML magazines out there besides Muzzleloader Mag, Muzzle Blasts, and Blackpowder Hunting?

those are the only ones I can find...some issues of Backwoods mag are better than others, but it is primarily not a ML mag.....Dixie Gun Works used to put out an annual mag, but I have not found one for this year....

I read Backwoodsman when I can find it. It's not specific to muzzleloaders, although it includes them. It's more about general woodsmanship/survival/homesteading, etc. Guns include mostly milsurp, outdated, inexpensive, oddball stuff, a real emphasis on practical, cost-efficient outdoor living. Lots of "how-to" articles about Indian crafts and frontier living, some good historical articles occasionally.

There's a publication put out by the American Mountain Men, but I forget what it's called. There's also the COHT magazine, "On The Trail":

There's stuff on the magazine links page you might want to look into:

Used to be Blackpowder Report, Blackpowder Times, American Rendezvous Magazine, but alas they all went under. Muzzleblast and Muzzleloader are the only two I see anymore and Muzzleloader is the only one I will spend money on. Muzzleblast went to expensive for me.

I like Backwoodsman, but it's not a m-l rag. lots of really neat old time stuff, very inexpensive practical ways of doing things.
I liked the "survival" rifle article. I have an old Westerfield made by Marlin 30-30 that I might turn into a survival handy rifle. The article tells how to store a weeks rations, 100 rounds of ammo, a compass, toilet paper, fishing line and hooks, matches, survival guide, tent, all in the butt stock.
Past issues have had articles on how to make a 5 bedroom, 3 bath home from bails of straw, building your own Beemer from junk yard parts, 1000 ways to re-use a beer can, making a solar reflector heating device from 3000 rolls of aluminum foil, how to catch ducks by putting a pumpkin on your head and wade into the water and catch them by the feet, making a canoe from paper mache and beeswax, heavy on the beeswax, a blow dart gun that will penetrate a steel can in case you get into a fight with an army of steel cans, how to reload .22 rimeifre using blue tip matches, how to do home dentistry with a rock, and many other extremely helpful ideas for the modern homesteader.

Just got my order of 12 issues all of 2003 muzzleblasts for 18 american dollar bills, I am very pleased with this mag.

I just got my first copy of MUZZLELOADER and I'm impressed.

Huntin

I just got my first two issues of the muzzle loader too. gots lots readin to do.. I didnt realize all the shops that are muzzle loader related for guns and supplies and such. I think I will just keep buying back issues of muzzle blasts so much cheaper and its all new to me no matter when it was written, I cant really buzz on up to Friendship so joining the club would not benefit me much anyway.

Some good books come from the Scurlock Press called Buckskinner I-VIII good for those into re-enactments and basic all around information.

I just keep re-reading my old Buckskinn Report Magazines.:what:

tipis :blah:

Sorry to hear you were disappointed with BWM. as others have pointed out, its gear towards those who want to live off the grid. I have seen some real fine hand made m/l guns in its previous issues. If you want a strictly m/l magazine, then the Scurlocks' fine magazine is the way to go.

But, I do suggest that you give BWM a chance, it may just grow on you and open your mind.

Harpman: Where didja git 12 backissues of Muzzle Blasts for 18 bucks?
I'll jump on that deal in a heartbeat.
Help a ol' fella out with a addy woodja? ::
