Well, I seem to have ordered an 18th-century sword, and will need to make a baldric, or leather strap, to hang it from. Anyone made one of these before? I'd actually like it to look very early 1700s or even late 1600s. Never having been a swordsman, I am not quite sure how these even work.

Najecki has some nice buckles and belt tips as well!

Baldrics are not to difficult really just a belt slung from one shoulder to the opposite hip, with the inclusion of an open bottom pouch for the sword. What type of scabbard mounts do you have for the sword?

What did you buy?

I am wanting a saber/cutlass/or hangar for circa 1790-1830. I have looked at a couple of the cold steel brand swords. I like the "5 ball spaudron" and the civilian saber. The 5 ball comes alot closer to the time period I want. I would really love to have lion head style hanger- can't seam to find a repro, and the originals are out of my price range!

You can look on my website of a few I've made, I've done them both with woven straps and 1.5 veg tan. I have a few original buckles, they arent hard to come by and make a unique piece.

Yeah, Paul Chen / Hanwei started making katana blades maybe 10 or 12 years ago. They caused a bit of a stir in the Japanese sword arts community because they are well made, hardened, and tempered correctly, and much cheaper than any blades of equivalent quality then available.

I have a couple, can't swear to the quality of the non-Japanese blades but the katanas I've had have been really great.

Bill nice looking sword-hope you like it!

Blackdog what is the link to you sight? I always like seeing others work! I also notice you are an Eastern Traveler! Nice meeting a relative!
