Jethro,

In better times, I may just check out that book...

i agree with BrownBear.

the bag looks great!

one of my kids got me the book (by Mr. Albert) some time ago, and i used the techniques in it to make some RenFest gear which actually drew compliments from 'Rennies-' not bad for my first try, so i recommend the book without hesitation.

Thanks BrownBear and MSW for the kind words! It was fun - but not quite 100 percent done yet. I want to add some pockets for high use items. Just planning them out. It seems that it is a nice size though. After I get this done, I have a couple of horns - maybe I will scratch out a horn too.

You feel a little warm spot right between your shoulder blades? That might be the onset of bag builder fever. Now that you're talking about making horns I'm sure you've got it, and got it BAD!!!! :rotf:

Congratulations!!!!!!

Not so much. Money is remarkably tight right now, and I had a bunch of this stuff on hand for a variety of projects (daughters in the Indian Princess program through the Y), plus I like making stuff. (the girls will be making drums one day soon for example)

Yup, pure denial. :haha:

Actually Jethro, tight money is a good way to approach it. I built two bags and two horns last year for $5. That's what it cost me for a nice knee-length leather coat from a thrift store, from which I made the two bags and straps, and there's leather left over. The horns were range finds, so didn't cost a cent. They looked pretty rough when I picked them up, but cleaned up really well.

It's just more fun to see what I can do for little or no money, in the spirit of the frontier folks making do a couple of hundred years ago.

Of course, my wife threatens to break my arms any time I even glance toward the leather coats in her closet!!! :shocked2:

You did pretty good for $5 BrownBear. I can't say I get by that cheap, but I use scrap leather and keep my eye out for deals at fairs, rondys, flea mkts etc. Never paid retail for leather yet.

Sorry to get back to ya late Pork Chop. But you have to admit the bag looks much better now with that one change. I like to protect the thread as much as possible and prefer a welted saddle stitch for most things. Looks good!

Ditto Swampy, good to have you back. Glad to see that your sense of humor is intact, sometimes that is the best meds available.

Welcome back Swampy!

Yeah, the revised stitching does make it better. I will try something else if I make another.

As the proud owner of a Swampy Bag I'm telling you I expect to wear out long before the bag does. You are wise to heed his advice. And Swampy, stay well and keep turning out your beautiful pouches. I think there just might be a market for them.
