hello folks I woold like some info about a pistol .the (once polished)lockplate is inscribed "manuf versailles" and before the cock "1769" .it has a octangonal barrel that turns round.and the stock looks(to me) liake it is made from walnut with brass hardwear.looks a little like a harper's ferry with a steel rod untherneath . a verry squar pan. and the barrel marks cal44 r.s in a cirkel 9006 (sepose the serial nr)kgs 700(supose the weight) :sorry:(althou it weighs 1150 grs), three smal cirkels ,ascheild with a cross in it and the nrs11.2 and 1 thats it hoe can tell me more i found it in belgium but i beleef its a cheap coppy of an old french pistol!!! :imo:

cheq doens' t wurk for me?????

cajou, I'd say you have a reproduction pistol. I'm no expert on French pistols, but what information I have leads me to believe that. French military pistols of that period generally have at least .57 caliber bores and no metric marks. It does sound like it is a copy of a pistol of that period though. Many originals had an octagon-to-round barrel, many had the maker's name there as well as the lockplate and many military pistols had the regiment or officer they were issued or sold to. Sorry I can't help more. I'm sure someone on here can tell you much more.
