well i'm thinking bout some thing on my new stock and need ya input....i was born in 1961 and was thinking of putting a silver 1961 quarter in the middle of the old patchbox door so it would say hey this is mine....and it would look like this....ok give me your input please....

of corse to bring out the silver quarter the brass will be browned like the rest of it on the gun....the only thing is that the quarters i've seen are bout $300.00 for some reason....and i've not found out why yet..............bob

It looks good to me.
I'm not into collecting coins but you may have been looking at a uncirculated coin which was struck at a mint that didn't produce very many quarters in that year. It's little things like that which makes one quarter worth 25 cents and another just about like it $300.

That sounds like a pretty cool idea, to me. I don't have any silver quaters, but, I have a few silver dimes and a couple silver dollars from the '20s of my Dad's. I was told they were only worth about $40 apiece. Coin collecting sounds like a screwy business to me.

I always wanted to do that with this coin...

Plus in will add to my gun's value by a whole dollar... :haha: :haha:

hey stumpkiller.....i didn't forget bout that quarter....i'm going to put it on the off side of the lock just behind the lock screw.....where it's flat as to the other side that has a curve to it.............................bob

I'd carve out the patchbox lid to fit that quarter in. Sorta of a metal inlay into metal.

I'd use a jeweler's saw and cut out Sacagawea and then inlay it. She sure would be pretty on there on the stock. :)

nice job i to would put the coin in the patch box lid would look real nice there .
best looking TC i seen in a long time
forget about PC build what you want, down the road what you make now will become PC :applause:

looking over the patch box door it's thicker then the quarter and would have to leave wood in the middle of the door....unless i get some brass thats the same thickness as the quarter....then i would not be using leftovers from my T/C stock....if i only could find someone that has a lathe to mill out .955 dia hole just deep enough for the quarter.....but the door is curved and the quarter is not but i could bend the quarter within the door to get the same curve to it....it's not much of a curve but with the quarter on the door you can see the difference......i'm still milling around with ideas.....so keep them coming as well guys.....also my thought was to use a screw and epoxy to hold the brass door in the stock and then epoxy the coin in the brass that way it's not coming out....................bob

Have you thought of maybe using a spoon bit that is the same size as the quarter?
A new one may be sharp enough at low speed to get deep enough in the brass to set the coin in. the other + would be you would have a hole on the back side that would allow you to sweat in silver solder to hold it in place.
Just an idea.

i don't know if they make a spade bit the size .955.....all the ones i have allready are in 1/8" size gradurations....aka 1'...7/8"...3/4"...5/8" and so on down.....i haven't had time to find out what the convertion is yet....etc 15/16"...............................bob

found a bit for drilling out holes for quarters and it costs $30.00....still have to talk to a guy that has a lathe for milling out my brass patchbox door to the size i need....maybe will get it done before hunting season maybe not....don't know yet............................bob

The stock looks great....I'd love to have a piece of wood to work with that was as figured as that.Good job! Why stop at the wood, why not put a nice chocolate brown finish on the barrel and lock? (and any other iron) It would look totally customized then. PS..... Then you could change the trigger guard and fool alot of people!

How about a buffalo nickel or an indian head penny?

If you want to reduce the value, you could always use the Susan B.

:imo: That coin is NOT easy on the eyes...
