Is part of a rifle that had no markings anywhere except this on the lock.

It would be helpful if you posted a photo of the rifle it came from. It does not appear to be a CVA replica lock but Hamm or vintage cannot be ruled out at this point.

After renovation (proper inletting, a bit of thinning down, a LOT of sanding and a no stain Tru-Oil finish)

The fitment of the mainspring into a notch in the bolster would seem distinctive. I've not seen the internals of an original Maslin. Could it be a Cochran, as the gun looks like it came out of the 1970s or 80s?

I bought it as a gun likely built about then but with an original Maslin lock.
I'm thinking about converting it to flint and selling the lock here.
I'm asking because, although the seller is a top flight highly respected guy, mistakes happen and I want to be positive that my information is correct if I pass it along.

Cochran? Never heard of it. Off to Google !

Looks like Cochran marked the inside of his locks. Mine has no such markings.
Googled it. Interesting read on the man, did his son ever restart the business ?
