Is there any problem owning or buying black powder firearms in Mass. Or hunting with them ? I understand that modern arms are a bear to buy. Bob

BY what I understand from a friend in Mass. You must even register a pellet gun. :shake: Pretty sick that the American Revolution was born there and now it's a communist state. :shocked2: If your thinking about moving up here, Vermont is a good choice. You can walk in a hardware store and buy a gun.

So, your answer is, you don't have a clue? Thanks for the political comentary. :shake:

Hello from the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts,

Yes we have strict and over-reaching gun laws. No you do not need a permit to buy a pellet gun. You have to have a permit to carry or purchase a firearm or to purchase ammunition. Once you have your permit buying, using and dealing with firearms (modern and primative) is not a problem. Blackpowder firearms are legal and we have a long primative arms deer season, this year from Dec 10th to Dec 31. My father even uses his muzzleloader during regular shotgun season.
I would say that the biggest irritation is that we cannot purchase powder or ammunition through mail order from out of state. :cursing:
It may not be as easy as it is in other states
but it is not as bad as is often portrayed by some.
Check out www.goal.org the Mass. Gun Owners Action League they have good Mass.gun law summeries.

Those mostly apply to antlerless deer permits, the state is broken into different zones and you can apply to get antlerless deer permits for specific zones. mass.gov/wildlife for more info

No permit needed for traditional ML firearms. Inlines are regulated the same way as cartridge guns.
