I just finished this matched pair of pistols for my son.
But, they arn't exactly the same   Grabed the wrong bottle of LMF stain for starters
I told my son about my gift and he was awestruck.
I have a handmade presentation case coming, a 490 bag mold from smilingfox, powderflask, and tools to go with it. Plus I found a place to order an engraved brass plaque that I am going to inlet into the case.

When I showed him them, he said it was too much and that I should keep one and he will keep the other.
I am going to give him first pick.
It's typical of my work.. plain and there are the ever present flaws, but they are one of a kind.
Besides, I just love building them

Beautiful work. So after all the questions prior to the build, what was it sock, shoe, sock shoe or sock, sock, shoe, shoe? One at a time or both together. Very nice job, your son should be beaming. Give him my thanks for service rendered, and coming home safe. Bill

I really like the finish of the upper pistol. The darker color sets off the colors of the barrel and brass quite nicely.

Outstanding offering for an outstanding service!

Please add our appreciation to go along with them.

Thanks for the kind words.
I had to build them one at a time. I was waiting for parts for the second one and just couldn't wait... You know how it is :) The darker red one at the top was first and the lighter honey colored one was next. You can't see from those pictures, but the forends are very thin. I took them down to a knife edge.
I think I blinked on the second one and didn't remove enought wood in the butt area.
I want to give it to him at a family get together.
Some time in the next few weeks

I am curious as to the stain color of the top gun. WHich LMF did you use? I have some red and it might be the same.

If the color bothered me, I would have gone over both with the other stain and thereby evened them both out to a similar final color. On the other hand, they look great as they are.

I am sure it's LMF lancaster maple. It is a just little darker becasue of the age of the stain.
I would like to build a couple more. But have no use for them.

Very Nice. Your son should be hard presed to pick between them.

Give your son my thanks from a former Engineer.

I sure will.
