I'm looking in to maybe doing a matchlock in the future. Is it possible to keep a slow match burning all afternoon, and if so, HOW? Or when you hunt do you not light it until there's a chance you can take a shot? If it is left to smolder all day how long will it last on average? Does it have a burn rate ie. an inch an hour or something like that. I really have no clue as I've never even seen one in use in person, and don't know anyone who has one.

Except u keep it lit on both ends... In case that buck'n doe attacks!

i would keep it lit and simply carry extra match cord. 4-5 feet extra of match cord wouldnt be too much to carry.
