Well, this I've never seen before. There may have been matchlock pistols but I can't find any pictures in the books I've got. Kind'a intereting though. Might be a bit tough on us folks with smaller hands!!

Well, it won't work. You'll have to check it out. Wes

I don't think I have ever seen one like that before. I have seen a matchlock pistole in the style of a wheellock. Book it was in said it was used for training by the cavalry troops.

Thanks for that link, been wanting do something different, I think that might be the ticket. Getting tired of the long guns, time for something fun!

 Pat I'll bet you that won't be done in four hours---but I am certain you will do one. You know for $299---it's like chicken soup ---it couldn't hurt---that ain't too bad looking---however, that being said, I am not one who has deep trust in Indian made firearms, as to the safety and reliability of the materials and workmanship. Mebbe I'll take the chance, I've got a mould for .60----:hmm:

Here is one I found on the net a while ago. It's on my list of things to do, about 203 on the list I think.

Thanks, Rifleshooter2,
I hope it's okay, I just saved them to my hard drive. If that is not allowed or appreciated, just say the word and I will delete them. :surrender:

I have ran out of breech plugs with all the guns, just hate making them from scratch, it's a waste of time for 9.00 from Track. Would be into the lock by now if it wasn't for my lack of inventory.

Another 69 cal, it's a huge pistol. I'm a little shy of that 25 inches. I also wasted a lot of time on the round end, not sure I will do another. Still a lot more shaping to be done. But looking forward to shooting it...

Pat

well Pat, sure would like one when your done a pair would be cool will have to try to make one myself if I only had a lock..Chuck

Nothing like leaving out "village", huh? CRS again!

I looked at that matchlock and thought, "Bet the 16th century Matt Dillion had some serious fast-drawing to do!" Had to be real steady with an open pan, etc. Does appear to be a real "neat" toy though. Not too concerned about the Made-in-India thing now, they appear to hae cleaned up their act since these guns first started coming in. Just keep the powder charges reasonable and giggles all the way around!

Hi Wes

The Japanese made matchlock pistols in all sizes from derringer to hand cannon, but the only European example I have seen are the jailer's key pistols.

OTOH, just because I haven't seen it doesn't mean it didn't exist

best regards

Squire Robin

Chuck,

After you pick up this beast you might have second thoughts! But then with the kick this thing will give, you might love every pound. Maybe have it done for tomorrow, if things go right today.

It's going to be one of those things you got to have, but then when you get it, you will wonder why did I want this?

You'll end up with it, you always do!

Pat

:v See I said that you would roll one out after having seen the enticing picture. That's good I like people with that decisive edge---hey let's do one and you off to the shop zipping around with the power surges moving down the neighborhood as your equipment goes on and off. I cannot wait to see this one Patrick. .69 ought to be a smoker and a boomer---the recoil will be a blast with a goodly bit of ffg as well. I carve decoys and shore birds and I remember getting a great picture off the internet and zooming downstairs into the shop, flicking on the lights and start looking for the wood block I needed---didn't have anything the right size---what a let down. :hatsoff:

Can't wait to dirty this one up some. Got a couple of hours of work on it, maybe tomorrow it will be ready. This gun was great, because I layed out all my scraps picking and sorting through. This one has a lot of worm/beatle wholes, which will give it character!

Pat

Thanks, Sire Squire! :haha: Didn't think of that angle. Also found one that's suppose to be from India...how ironical is that? This one has some sort of odd trigger that looks like a rectangular block below and just behind the lock. Assume, not a good idea, it was pushed up into stock to fire it!

Well it's done. I gave myself until 12:00 today and were I was I called it quits. Going to shoot it. Chuck and I feel that it needs some ornimentation on it. So going to do some brass or copper work on it. Might throw some whales on it. Feels like a ships boarding gun to me.

Going to shoot another rabbit target.

 See I knew it---nice job ---enjoy. I am hooked on this like I was on the others--- :youcrazy: ---where do you get the business ends for the ramrods Pat? :hatsoff:

HI there, so what do you think. All six shots at about 12 paces. One shot of buckshot (11 .250 balls) that all are acounted for in a 6 inch group about 1 o clock, and one shot of #8 shot, about 100 of them in there!

I had so much fun with it! A big old smile on my face. Was on the phone all the way back to town.

Two thumbs up on these pistols. I shot 55 grains of FF in this 69 cal, with no kick or bad things happening. I'm hooked...

Oh, I turn down my own ramrod ends, I make up about 6 ramrods at a time, and need to make more up. It will be nice to make more pistols, can use up all those ramrod cutoffs!

Enjoy

Pat

Ornamentation, by all means! Little ivory or mother-of-pearl whittled into guys with spears harpooning bears & boars or little cherubs flitting about like bees! :rotf:

Could have gone with an 8-ball for the butt and made a few bucks telling fortunes!! :rotf: :rotf:

 Hey Wes would you believe that I got into this---"hook, line & sinker", which reminds me we are going to open our Fishing club property in two weeks---wow!!! It looks like Pat has once again beaten everybody with his matchlock pistol. Just got a call from Middlesex Village TP---and they sold out their supply of pistols and there will be about two months for the next ones to arrive---so I will sit back and wait patiently since I cannot duplicate Pat's non-ending supply of barrels and skills, plus a hell of a great workshop. My best to Bev. :hatsoff:
