Max Load for CVA 12 Gage Double Barrel Shotgun

I have a CVA 12 Gage double Barrel BP shotgun. It is about 20 years old. I bought it used and it did not have any manufactures manual. What is a Max load for this gun. I would not want to put to much powder in a load. Thanks for any experience and load combinations you can provide.

I usually use 82 gr FFg and 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 oz shot in my 12 gauge. That's a pretty conservative load. Depending on your choke, adding more powder will widen the pattern as much as speed up the pellets, so it may be counterproductive. I wouldn't go over 90 gr FFg, or 80 FFFg if you're using that.

I have an older Navy Arms Bouble .12 ga. My heavy load is 95 grs of powder and 1 1/4 oz of shot. But you may find that the most powerful load is not the best patterning one. Usually more shot than powder will tighten patterns.

Used to have a CVA Double 12 ga. with modified/modified chokes. Wish I kept it. For turkey I loaded it volume-for-volume, 3 1/4 drams 2f and 1 1/4 oz. shot (#5s or #6s).

Tried to reply to this last night, but I guess it didn't take, so here we go again.
I built a CVA 12ga kit about twenty years ago, and the loading manual(why not ask CVA for a loading manual for your gun?) said to use equal volumes of powder and shot.
I cut down a 20ga shell for 1-1/4oz of shot and use it for powder and shot both.
BTW, if you write CVA and tell them you bought this used and somebody recommended using 120gr with a 1-1/4oz load you'll probably get a quick response. That is probably not a bad overload, but I wouldn't use it.
