Well it is quite cheap for a kit these days and definently worth a try.

I don't think you can increase the downrange performace of a round ball. Have you ever pulled a round ball from a deer after harvesting it?..it is very impressive! Changing the shape of a round ball might even decrease the downrange accuracy too.

I could see where this kit might increase the downrange performace of a maxiball or the such though!

Good luck!

Many. Which is why I was wondering about this Maxi-Shok thing.

REALLY! HUH! All the round balls I have pulled have been flattened out to about a quarter size just under the skin or more on the other side of the deer.

I hunt mule deer (bigger animal then whitetail) though with a 50 with 60 grains of 2f Swiss black under the round ball.

Interesting!

I would say go for it! The kit really might work well...let us know!

:thanks:

Volks,

I have seen that kit before, but a good friend who happens to be a ballistician and a long time hunter, shooter, reloader, muzzle loader "crank", etc... told me that you shouldn't mess with a round ball (that is... if it is a swaged and very true diameter sized round ball).

He told me that you'll do more harm to accuracy than anything as a round ball has a poor ballistic coefficient--almost non- existent. Changing it's Center of Gravity by putting a hollow point or an X on it changes it's balance.

Think about it this way, if you knew for sure there was a void inside a round ball that shifted it's Center of Gravity (and likewise it's accuracy potential in relation to the following shots)... would you want to shoot those
"voided-balls" all the time? There's a joke somewhere in there but I'm not going to try and bring it out...

Think about it though...

I will say though, that using that kit on solid nose conicals is an ENTIRELY different situation and you "could" benefit very much if you desired even more expansion from them. The price is good too, 'cause Fox Ridge isn't known for bargains or "wholesale pricing".

But PLEASE leave the round balls ROUND... okey dokey?

:)

Likely not as if I get this gadget, I'll certainly try it on roundball.

I also wonder what it will do to the RB as far as accuracy. But I'm most interested in seeing what the difference is on terminal ballistics with RB & conicals on actual kills.

As it cuts/swedges or does whatever it does to the ball after it is seated and centered in the bore, it probably does not effect accuracy much if at all. Really kind of interesting.

I would agree that it would be more useful with a slug though....and I don't imagine the round balls in my .61" or .75" would need the "help". !!!

:shake:

I say go for it TQ.
