Hello folks I have a question about black powder , I'm sure most of you have seen these adds for Maximizing your muzzel loaders with full power caliber-full power loads . Just send in 30 dollars and they send you load data for 4f powder in most every caliber from 40 to 58 . sopposedly 200 yard knockdown power with great accuracy in short miracle info for 30 bucks ,Whats this all about ? the last add I saw was from BIG MEDICINE INC.I am very interested in hearing other opinions thank you.

Sounds like more hype to me, and also a good way to get someone hurt or killed when there rifle blows up in their face from the dangerous pressure created by using 4f as the main charge.

Not that I owuld EVER try that, but most of the barrel makers say you can use any amount of blk powder and it wont blow up barrels.

Ill stick to FFF

Even from 2f to 3f the breech pressure goes up tremendously, I would hate to think what a 4f load would do to breech pressures. Wowzers. Not for me. :shake:

I believe if you talk to a barrel maker you'll find he's very conservative about recommended loads, particularly in thin walled barrels.
You boys feel free to look for ways to make magnums out of them is you want, but remember, most black powder barrels are made of leaded steel which simply isn't safe with high pressures. A .54 with 80 or 90 grains of FFg is capable of killing a buffalo at 100 yards--how much more power do you need.

I don't want to "maximize" my muzzleloader. I want to do things the way they were done 225 years ago.

Words like "New, Improved, Radical, Patented or Extreme" are taking me in the wrong direction. :shake:

Ant it Amazing! Left the farm over 50 years ago and I still know a pile of :bull: whem I see it! :rotf:

Maybe the ad to maximize muzzleloading was placed by PETA, to get rid of the hunters and make a few bucks in the process...

Hey, watch it I belong to PETA, and I know what FFFFG is. People Eating Tasty Animals :rotf: Bill
